EDISJ Panel Discussion of STLS Members In-Person

Social justice work was a core value of librarianship long before it was termed a core value. In recent years, practices of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) have been incorporated into the library's service model under the umbrella of social justice. Member libraries and STLS continually evolve by exploring and developing new ways of embedding DEI into internal and public facing practices. This workshop will feature the experiences of several member directors and staff who have been working with their colleagues and library boards to implement DEI. Panelists will answer a series of questions that inform participants on how libraries are using DEI to strengthen practices and services, and why it is so important for their communities.

Panelists include:

  • Kelly Povero, Director - Watkins Glen Public Library
  • Pauline Emery, Director - Southeast Steuben County Library (Corning)
  • Elizabeth "Eba" Klindt, Library Program Assistant - Hornell Public Library
  • Bec Cronk, Director - Almond 20th Century Club Library
  • Raeanne Smith, Director - Little Genesee Library and Scio Memorial Library
  • Melanie Miller, Director - Alfred Box of Books Library
