Weeding for the Utterly Fearless by Angela Newman In-Person
Weeding is essential to the health of every library collection. Not only does it remove materials that are outdated or in poor condition, but it also makes browsing easier, boosts your circulation statistics, and makes room for new items. But when staff is nervous about "getting rid" of items, weeding can easily become a project pushed off to another, distant day. In small, rural libraries, you don't have the shelf space to wait for that day. Be utterly fearless and join us for a lively discussion of best practices for the deselection and disposal of popular materials in small public libraries!
Angela Newman is the Continuing Education and Communications Coordinator for the North Country Library System. In addition to coordinating professional development opportunities for library staff and trustees, Angela also manages the content for the NCLS website and social media platforms. Collection development is her jam; weeding is her favorite and her best.
